Maverick Helicopters have received the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) 2018 Award of Excellence “Diamond Award.” The prestigious honour is a result of the ongoing dedication to maintenance training and aircraft safety.  The award is Maverick Helicopters’ eighth consecutive for its Las Vegas and Grand Canyon South Rim locations and the fourth consecutive award for its Maui, Hawaii facility since inception in 2015.

Maverick Helicopters flies more than 250,000 guests combined each year from its various North American locations and holds the top safety record of any tourism-based aviation company in the world.

“We are proud of our exceptional maintenance team for the hard work they continuously perform in order to ensure the safety of our guests,” said John Buch, president of Maverick Aviation Group, parent company of Maverick Helicopters. “Receiving one of the FAA’s highest honours eight years running is evidence of our dedication and safety standards.”

In 2018, the maintenance technicians of Maverick Helicopters recorded more than 3,200 hours of training. More than 2,000 of those hours were provided through the company’s internal training courses. The training program at Maverick Helicopters requires all employees to complete a three-week training course, outside of manufacturer and FAA requirements, to ensure safety standards are upheld and surpassed. Additionally, 100 percent of all eligible technicians obtained individual awards through in-house and factory training.

U.S country music legend Dolly Parton has opened her dreamland inspired expansion ‘Wildwood Grove’ to her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The newest and largest ever development solidified the theme parks place among the United States premier family destinations. Parton opened the fascinating new land to visitors ready to enjoy its 11 thrilling new experiences. During an early morning media event on Friday, Parton shared the inspiration and dreams that led to the creation of Wildwood Grove, calling the area the new standard for Dollywood.

At $37 million, Wildwood Grove is Dollywood theme park’s largest capital investment ever and is the first new area added to Dollywood since Wilderness Pass in 2008. The biggest adventure in Dollywood’s history provides guests of all sizes unique experiences to enjoy together as a family.

“When I was a little girl growing up in the hills of the Smoky Mountains, I’d often let my imagination just run away—something I still do now—dreaming these big dreams about what it’d be like to venture off with a family of bears in to the woods or how fun it would be to hitch a ride with the butterflies and dragonflies,” Parton said. “All us kids would splash and play in the creeks and ponds around home and have these daydreams about the world around us, and that’s what’s so special about Wildwood Grove. We’ve been able to create a new area to allow families to experience some of those exact dreams we all had when we were little.

After stepping into Wildwood Grove, imagination takes flight. Families can take rides inside giant acorns at Treetop Tower and aboard a thrilling “leaf boat” on the Great Tree Swing. Even the bears are friendly in Wildwood Grove, as they let guests meander with them through their own natural habitat at the Black Bear Trail. If smaller guests need a quick break, Hidden Hollow contains a 4,000 sq. ft. climate-controlled area with climbing structures, slides and games where kids and their parents can enjoy play time full of exploration.

Nearby, families will be delighted to take a ride with Tennessee’s state symbol—the mockingbird—in an experience they control themselves at The Mad Mockingbird. Others dip and dart through geysers while suspended from dragonflies on the area’s signature ride attraction, Dragonflier.

At the heart of it all is The Wildwood Tree. This focal point is a beacon for all, drawing families to watch the butterflies play in its leafy canopy, while encouraging others to splash and play in the winding creek that flows at its base. Wildwood Tree comes to life each evening with a unique nighttime experience which begins 15th June. Each season of the year features a spectacular new experience for guests.

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser announced record tourism numbers for 2018. The state welcomed 51.3 million visitors in 2018, representing an increase of nine percent over the 47.1 million visitors reported by DK Shifflet in April 2017. The state welcomed strong numbers of international visitors during the calendar year, the biggest overseas market being the United Kingdom. Visitors spent $18.8 billion, an increase of seven percent over 2017. The travel and tourism industry generated $1.9 billion in state and local tax revenue in 2018. Tax revenue generated through travel and tourism spending saves each household in Louisiana $1,082 a year in taxes that would be needed to maintain current services.

“We’ve seen a continued growth over the past three years of hotel accommodations, attractions, and tourism jobs throughout Louisiana. This growth has enabled us to continue successfully increasing our visitation numbers to reach 51.3 million,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “By promoting Louisiana as a place where you can Feed Your Soul, we can attract more visitors, which means more tax revenue we can generate. Through continuing to prioritize efforts to promote Louisiana and with the ongoing support of our partners across the state, we can continue this success.”

Neil Jones, the UK account manager to New Orleans and Louisiana added “We are so pleased to see the visitor numbers continuing an upward trend.  The direct British Airways flight has been an integral part of this growth, along with increased airlift to the whole Deep South region.  We want to thank our tour operator partners for their support and the reservations staff and retail agents for their enthusiasm and interest”. He continued “Louisiana offers British visitors a real taste of America, spiced with Cajun and Creole food and served with a soundtrack of jazz”

As Girls Trip opens in UK cinemas today, New Orleans CVB provides a guide to the locations that movie goers will see on screen. The movie follows four long-time friends, played by Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish, who visit the city for a wild weekend together.

Their weekend is the Essence Festival, an annual summer event in the city. The movie was filmed during the 2016 festival: www.essence.com

From the Louis Armstrong International Airport to the Mercedes Benz Superdome, it is easy to find locations from the movie.  A walk through the French Quarter will have echoes of this film and many more.

Head to Frenchmen Street to relive a scene in which the movie’s main characters wear wildly coloured wigs for a drunken dance-off with a group of rival fest-goers.  The scene was shot in and just outside Maison, a three-level bar and live-music venue.

When the girls first arrive in town they head for their rooms at the Hotel Monteleone. Before they can head up to their rooms, however, an incident at the lobby bar; the Carousel Bar, lands them in hot water.

Harrah’s Casino is the backdrop for a scene in which the four main characters hit the dance floor at an unnamed club, after enjoying a bottle of Absinthe.

Tropical Isle in the French Quarter features prominently in Girls Trip, due to the characters’ fondness for the bar’s signature drink, the Hand Grenade. A few scenes are set inside the bar as well, including a cameo in one of the film’s most talked about scenes; involving a zip line and an unfortunate accident.

The local nightspot House of Blues appears on-screen as itself, as the location of a Ne-Yo concert attended by the film’s main characters.

The Mercedes Benz Superdome is an iconic symbol of the New Orleans skyline and has been the home of the annual Essence Festival since it began in 1995.  Tours of the stadium are available.

New Orleans makes the perfect girls getaway trip at any time of the year – with music, food, festivals and cocktails available 24/7!

Bon Voyage is offering a long weekend in New Orleans between October 2017 and April 2018 from £1265 per person including;

  • British Airways non-stop flights to New Orleans from London Heathrow
  • Three nights at the Monteleone Hotel

Stay in Lizzie Borden’s house and other mysterious locations in Massachusetts for £1195 per person

Released this week on 2 May 2017, See What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt reimagines the unsolved American true criminal case of the Lizzie Borden murders that happened in Massachusetts. On a summer morning of 1892, Lizzie’s father and step-mother are found brutally murdered – Lizzie Borden is thirty two years old, living at home and becomes a suspect. After the trial, she is found innocent and to this day, no one has been convicted of the crime.

Known for the being the Borden family home, the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum in Fall River, Massachusetts is the perfect place to immerse yourself in this murder story. Visitors will find a Victorian house with a wicked past and they can stay in any of the 8 bedrooms that were once home to the Borden’s. Should visitors not be brave enough to stay, tours of the house are provided daily 11:00 – 15:00.

Where else can visitors test their fears in Massachusetts?

In the most haunted hotel in Boston – The Omni Parker House. It is said that the ghost of the original owner (Harvey Parker) continues to roam the halls of the hotel. Sights of the ghost usually come out on the 10th floor and he visits room 1078 occasionally. Apparently, there’s also a gathering of ghosts on the 3rd floor – in room 303 and the elevators have been known to stop for no reason.

Salem offers visitors a Halloween experience all year round.  The city of Salem on the north coast of Massachusetts is famous for the 1692 witch trials. Visitors can find out more about these twenty innocent individuals, who were executed due to supposedly being in pact with the Devil, at the Salem Witch Museum and experience the performance that relives the story at the Witch Dungeon Museum. Visitors can also visit the home of the judge, Jonathan Corwin at the Witch House. There is also a Witch Trails Memorial which includes twenty granite benches inscribed with the name and date of each execution. Visitors can also discover the witch city during a bewitched after dark walking tour, a historical walking tour led by a Salem native and modern witch. There is a wide array of Witch shops, each offering their own style of classes and themed on different types of magic found in Salem.

Take me to mysterious Massachusetts:

Inspired by the release of this new book, Bon Voyage is offering a seven night package from £1195 per person including return flights from London Heathrow to Boston Logan International Airport, three nights in Boston, Omni Parker, two nights in Salem in the Morning Glory B&B and two nights in the Lizzie Suite at the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum including car hire. Price based on room only, two people sharing and travel in October 2017.
